where imagination and intuition meet
how we lose trust in ourselves, and how we begin to remember.
don’t you wish you had a way to tap into all the wisdom you would ever need for your life?
what if you already do?
instead of always paying a therapist, leaning on your friends and family, or going to a psychic, wouldn’t it be nice to know that you could access the guidance you need yourself?
there are those who believe in god, many gods, guardian angels, spirit guides, animal or nature totems, or no god at all.
there are those who believe we are simply a collection of firing cells and electrical impulses that cease to exist when we die.
and there are those who believe we are much more.
souls on a human journey.
some believe we are spiritual beings here to incarnate once before going to heaven.
others feel we are here many times through the karmic cycle of reincarnation.
whatever your belief system, i think most of us can agree that there is a voice inside us that tells us things about what we are experiencing.
some people call it a hunch, a gut feeling, intuition.
lately, i’ve been referring to it as an inner knowing, or a soul whisper.
we all have imaginations that can wander freely.
and maybe you could say it’s the place where our imagination and our intuition meet.
today, most of us know how mindfulness and meditation have helped millions of people to quiet the ceaseless problem solving, replaying of the past, and worrying about the future.
but what if we dug a little deeper?
because when we quiet our minds, or even when we are sleeping, we can sometimes receive ideas or messages through dreams, both nighttime dreams and daydreams.
and what if, once the mind becomes quiet, there is something worth listening to?
what if learning to listen to that place is actually a skill?
i wonder if we are all born with it.
and i wonder if, from a very young age, we are slowly taught to turn against it.
sometimes in dramatic ways, but sometimes in very ordinary ones.
like the first time you were told to eat everything on your plate, even though you were full.
or the first time you were told not to cry.
do you remember the first time you wanted to wear something because you loved it, and someone told you that you’d look foolish?
the list goes on and on…
in all these little ways, we began looking outside ourselves for validation, for love, for acceptance.
and by the time we become adults, many of us barely know what our own true preferences are anymore, let alone how to follow them.
but like riding a bike or learning to read and write, tapping into our inner wisdom takes practice.
and just like any skill, we can learn to lean into the innate wisdom of our subconscious.
i’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.
because i’m beginning to wonder if remembering how to trust ourselves isn’t some rare gift.
maybe it’s simply a skill we were never taught to develop.
or maybe it was something we were born knowing, but as babies we had no way to hold onto it.
because we were taught to abandon ourselves instead.
and what we were never taught may be exactly the part we need to reclaim now.
our sparkle.
our divinity.
our innocence.
our inner weirdo.
we must learn to embrace our unapologetically unique selves.
it’s the very part of us that always knew everything we needed all along.
now, as conscious adults, we get to choose whether we take that part back.
i’m here for it.
