what our world would be

if we couldn't express ourselves?

if we couldn't dive to the depths of our souls

and then carry the gold

back up to the surface somehow.

what a hopeless place this world would be.

so many tied in knots…

so many knots.

all the suffering of all the innocent.

we all started out innocent at one point.

then the split.

it occurs for everyone.

a split that happens

when we very first learn to abandon ourselves.

in those early formative years.

we split from our source of innocence and wholeness

when we were made to feel we weren't enough,

or we shouldn't have done…

or that it's all our fault.

everyone experiences the split

and then the countless ones that come after.

and thus begins the years of not knowing.

of stumbling around in the darkness.

sometimes, if we are lucky enough

we get to hold a small candle.

but most of the time

we are completely blind

and sensing and crawling

stooped and hunched and stumbling

through the vast darkness of our lives.

feeling for all the dark shapes

that surround us.

having forgotten our own precious form.

such a tragedy you say?

but is it not a divine tragedy?

our very own chosen divine tragedy.

we forgot so we could remember.

what if source made us all

so she/he/it could experience itself

in a million billion trillion different ways?

some say that we each have a giant eye

an eye that is all knowing

an i that is all growing

i am that i am

looking out from the center of my being.

just for the thrill of it.

the joy,

the pain,

the heartbreak,

the ecstasy.

of being form who forgets

of being life that expands

of being light that shimmers

of being tears that fall

of being…

it started with a whisper of a hope.

let this be the one.

oh please, god,
let me not stumble into the same patterns
that have burned and torn at my heart
my whole life.

a life of loving what i couldn’t have.
a life of sorrow cut from the cloth
of my earliest memories.

buried deep within
so i could survive.

i forgot.

the chains formed
nonetheless
forged in the darkness of
someone else’s lust.

thrust
upon a
young
innocent toddler.

forgotten to survive.

but the cycles repeated.
danger equaled intimacy.
masks upon masks.

seeking always
someone to fill
the raw and jagged pit
that carried
an unquenchable thirst
for love.

within a soul who learned
to flee to safety somewhere else.

always somewhere else.

a mind on a treadmill of anxiety
scanning for danger.

but danger it could never name
or see
or feel

until it could.

that was the beginning
of the unravelling.

brought on by the gentleness
of mother gaia’s own medicine.

the return to innocence
was a perilous journey
through hell and back.

but each demon
slain in the battlefield
marked a victory
the young golden toddler
got to keep.

and the mother who learned
that she was enough
to hold her through the tears.

same woman
different gowns.

and now she learns to dance again.

not the harsh violent dance
of betrayal and self-abandonment

but a dance of love.

she found love within
the flowering that bloomed
one tiny bud at a time.

until a garden of roses
filled her sweet soul.

a fragrance so sweet
it soothed her aching mind.

she began to dream
the world back to color.

and if you see her now,
she laughs in her garden so fair.

a gentle woman she has become.
so graceful in her softness,
her refusal to become hardened.

blossoming fragrant as the red red rose.
with thorns sharp as the blades that cut
foe from friend.

here she dwells
until time unknown.

home at last.

all dressed up in his dark coat and tie
all filled up with self-promoting lies

the most dangerous man isn’t fresh off the streets being charged
the most dangerous man sits easy at his desk feeling large

a tough guy, a mega rich guy
ruler of the universe guy

gotta be ruthless, gotta put on a big show
gotta step on top of everyone below

in his men’s club, the mostly whites club
golfing at the country club

giving the powerless a predator’s name
while making sure he’s free of any blame

a con guy, a wise guy
controller of the storyline guy

playing people is his perfect game
making big money his claim to fame

yet

the public housing kid in a hoodie walking by
might carry a knife or a gun against his thigh

because self-protection isn’t something he’s allowed to deny
so we kill him or we cage him, public safety in disguise

since society’s forgotten how to look him in the eye
it’s a problem, a real big problem

the most dangerous man rewrites the rules
the most dangerous man takes us all for his fools

you always thought you’d get away with it all,
that hidden smirk, your private masquerade ball.
nine swords running up our spines
when all we ever needed was father time.

your angels won’t save you now
from the poison of your sins.
your house of cards caved in around you.
truth has a way of turning one in.

nine lives lived with your secrets tucked inside.
cat got your tongue? now we see your lies.
swords came out, we’re dancing on their lines.
mona lisa’s smile, you’re gonna watch us shine.
watch us shine.

you were a trickster, skilled at inflicting pain,
showing off your craft. a master? no, you ain’t.
you lied, how you lied,
but now your secrets have slipped loose
from all the knots you tied

and sleep by day

not really asleep,
just changing shape,
perfecting the play

being boss,
playing king,
billionaire baby boys,
psychopathic wannabes

it’s not just them
so don’t pretend

it isn’t everywhere
can’t help but stare
at all the names,
the endless names

and don’t forget
the women who stayed
silent — oh so silent —
holding the camouflage steady
so their thrones remain ready

not just the elite
don’t tie this up neat
inside a pretty bow

such endless dark lust
to steal without fuss,
breathing rancid breath,
lurking where trust
should have been kept

daily, hourly,
minute by minute

babies still in diapers
yes —
you heard me right

don’t pretend to be appalled
the writing’s on the wall

written in the blood
of all the girls and boys

who couldn’t make a sound,
so they swallowed it down

this is hard to read

to the soft parts that bleed

pierced by the devil’s darkest creed,

revolution is at hand.

let them eat cake!
we’re here again.

what to do—
flee or stand?

if you stand,
make sure it’s not
in the quicksand
of their rot.

place each foot
on solid land
where beauty breathes
and truth is felt.

what brought us here?

no way around,
we must go through
the birth canal,
a world brand new.

the great divide
where we decide
who lives
or dies.

we must not forget,
one world we are—
a freedom star

but who would want to read these thoughts just poured onto the page without careful curation?

it turns out many people.

and many of my writer friends write this very way all the time.

that’s the thing. we are all so different.

some people edit and edit and edit and write from a highly formulated place.

i have done that too.

while others pour it all out just as it comes.

just like us, our thoughts are all so different.

and different doesn’t mean one is better than the other.

it’s just a matter of trusting our own voice enough to share it unfiltered.

unfiltered and unedited are two very distinct things.

if you are trying to communicate clearly with your readers, you’ll at least need minimal structure and editing.

but if the purpose of your writing is to unleash the human capacity in its rawest, purest form, then you must also learn do the opposite.

you must learn to let the unfiltered lead the way.

one is truly not better than the other, it’s just that everything has its role, everything has its purpose.

societal conditioning would have us believe that we are better or worse than each other.

divided, they conquer.

divided, we fall.

so i’m here to say,

hey, guys, there is a better way.

and it’s not because i thought of it, but because we are all remembering it as a collective.

an uprising.

it is time.

it was always meant to come from us.

we had to be ready first.

those from the stars have been watching and guiding from the sidelines.

but humans are ready now.

though the vast majority are still asleep, the rest of us rebel rousers are waking up together.

and since creativity is our true nature, it is happening through writing, art, and all the ways we beautifully magnificent humans create!

new birth. new roots. new shoots. new life.

at long last.

and many days still suck ass.

but most days i’m feeling inspired because of this gathering place for humans with heart and the courage to share.

last night, this feeling of inspiration led me to ponder the nature of life itself and how finite and fleeting life here on earth truly is.

we have to enjoy the merry-go-round while we’re here.

joni mitchell says it best in her song,

the circle game~
and the seasons they go round and round,
and the painted ponies go up and down,
we’re captive on a carousel of time.
we can’t go back, we can only look
behind from where we came,
and go round and round and round on the circle game.

because one day, you’ll wake up and realize this life passed by in the blink of an eye.

and those who’ve had near-death experiences often say, when they leave their earthly vessel, that there’s a reunion of soul family and spirit guides, and it feels like they stepped away for a moment and then returned.

here is a poem about the transient nature of this human life:

life is a merry-go-round

spinning faster than ever,
from childhood to now.

moments as painful as hell.
still, you’re making it through.

somehow, time bends anew.

so love with your whole heart,
as if today might be your last.

and when the path feels weary,
do not forget to ask—

from loved ones…who’ve passed,
from spirits, from god,

from whatever source you trust
to walk beside you, love.

because you are never alone.
not even on your darkest days.

and when it’s all said and done,
you’ll look back and see
how precious,
how fleeting,
this one life can be.

life is a crazy ride.

we can learn to surf the tide by showing up as our most authentic, messy, majestically creative selves.

creativity is one of the strongest forms of resistance.

and it can look anyway you want.

learn to ride the merry-go-round of time just like you ride the waves of life.

my daughter’s amazing picture captured this essence perfectly during our recent trip to costa rica.

pura vida lifestyle means so much.

mostly though, it is a verbal signal to relax and enjoy the ride.

trauma— 
forged you into a sword for the divine.
the wounded empath 
who reached their inner sun.

it was not without pain.
you bled to get here,
and your gain is real.

this is not the end—
it’s the beginning.

the hypervigilance,
the chronic scanning for danger,
the self-doubt and comparison.
the fear that you would never make it out

of the deep, dark hole.

all of it, like a shadowed tree,
growing from twisted roots
in a forest with its hidden understory.

the brainstem of a nervous system
hijacked—

it ends now.

a tree falls in the forest

in this place,
a living sapling takes root—

heart-led,

the circus performer
and his little army of trolls
no longer fool me.

healing from trauma

is messy work

last night,

a dream

water rising,

a tub filling,

bleach pouring in—

overflowing,

refusing to drain

you can’t bleach shame

an online stalker

won’t be tamed

my lifelong pattern—

trauma bonding,

falling prey,

hunted

love-bombed

yet again

hooks sunk deep—

too much,

too fast

an erotic exchange,

images shared,

sharp words after—

daggers

that cut

steel lines cast

to steal

my sacred light

siphons used

to consume

i was too young

to understand—

forced to feel

arousal

from dark hatred,

a lust that fed

on innocence

no more

patterns breaking,

earth is quaking,

our ancient mother cries—

help my children heal

you’ve been holding your breath, caught up in fear,
but like waves rolling in, our victory is near.

come out, come out,
no need to hide.
we can finally breathe out,
like the dawn’s rising tide.

for leaping and dancing from our fiery depths,
truth is escaping,
along with all secrets she kept.

a giant red serpent spreads over the earth,
her lava now roiling, unbridled in birth.

they call her a curse, the villagers do,
for she breathes holy fire,
and she’s calling for you.

her voice ringing out,
she sings right through your being:
you will hear me!
you may fear me,
but you’ll know why I came.

remember! she roars,
my dear little warriors,
you’re done playing small,
stop suffering in vain,
you cannot be slain.

the chains that once bound us
have all come undone.

so when we’re done marching,

how many tears have we shed for each other, for the loss of life, of sanctity, of sovereignty?

our roots ran deep, yet they cut us to our knees.

oh, how we bled, not the soft blood of our wombs, but the bitter blood of grief, of slaughter shared.

the fire that once consumed us in solitude, the fire that leapt at our flesh for daring to speak, that same fire now forges us anew.
